Barnes & Noble has a leg up on the Kindle , since they ’ve receive over 700 brick - and - mortar entrepot where they can sell the Nook . But BN will only be selling the Nook in certain stores , push delay - gratification on-line sales agreement instead . Updated .
In a scheme that seems needlessly drawn - out , BN is push the sales of Nook to be mostly online , and the stock that do n’t have the hardware in stock will alternatively prescribe it for you online , to be ship to your home . Each store will have one demonstration unit , but in many stores , you ’ll have to look for on-line merchant marine after trying it out . Why they ’ve choose to go this route is a mystery to me — why would they want to add an redundant footmark for consumer ? We ’re not sure yet exactly which stores will be getting Nooks ( or why — maybe a provision take ? ) ; it ’s not a huge mountain but it ca n’t help oneself the Nook ’s opportunity .
Update : Barnes and Noble responds :

While it ’s always difficult to predict demand on a new product , and ahead of time from reply from consumers is strong , Barnes & Noble expects to have nook eBook readers in stock in the majority of its store by the peak vacation time of year and plans to have nook devices in ancestry in all of its storage by early next class . If the product is out of stock or not available in a special store , our booksellers can help facilitate an in - stock order that will be shipped to the customer ’s home .
Guess we ’ll see what the rollout look like when it in reality happens.[Paid message ]
