The legend, 73, performed “The Place Where Lost Things Go” fromMary Poppins Returnsat the2019 Academy Awardson Sunday night.

“The Place Where Lost Things Go” isnominatedfor Best Original Song.
Ahead of the ceremony, Midler announced her performance on Twitter, saying she was “so excited.”
“So, (drum roll) Ladies and Gentlemen, I will be chanteusing (that’s singing) onthe Oscarson Feb 24…the nominated song from ‘Mary Poppins’…’The Place Where Lost Things Go’…so excited!!” she wrote.
Shortly after it was announced that Midler would be singing his song, Shaiman, 59,gushed on Facebookthat his heart was “exploding.”
“As a child of the 60s, I grew up obsessed with the ‘Mary Poppins’ soundtrack, learning everything about songwriting and film scoring from it. As a teenager in the 70’s, I became obsessed with new star Bette Midler, who fate amazingly led me to, resulting in our 40 year relationship,” he wrote. “Could I have ever imagined that one day Bette Midler would sing a song I co-wrote with Scott Wittman for a sequel to ‘Mary Poppins’ at the Academy Awards?! My heart is exploding!!!”
Midler is no stranger tothe Oscarsstage: she has twice been nominated for Best Actress, forThe Rose(1979) andFor the Boys(1991). In 2014, she performed her signature ballad “Wind Beneath My Wings” from her movieBeachesduring the ceremony’s annual In Memoriam tribute.
The 91st Academy Awards are broadcasting live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.
