Personal relationships are always tricky , but they ’re even trickier when they revolve around running a business deserving 1000000000 of dollars . Just ask Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates !
In arecent interviewwith Bloomberg TV , Ballmer expand on his human relationship with college acquaintance and Microsoft carbon monoxide gas - beginner Gates , explain that the two have “ freewheel apart . ” The reason ? Those gosh darn smartphones , for one .
“ There was a primal disagreement about how authoritative it was to be in the hardware business , ” Ballmer said . “ I had pushed Surface . The board had been a little — little loth in supporting it . And then thing come in to a climax around what to do about the phone business . ”

Ballmer , who was CEO of Microsoft for 14 year , say that there had been “ [ a ] little bit of a difference in opinion on the strategic focussing of the company . ” In October , current CEO Satya Nadellasaidthat the company “ clearly missed mobile … there is no question . ” ( At least it was n’t the only one . )
Of course , once Microsoft actually did record hop on the mobile train , the results were n’t great — it even startedgiving awayits mobile phones in April , and in May , itannouncedit was “ streamlining ” its smartphone hardware business .
Had he done things differently , he would have dive in sooner . “ I would have move into the hardware job quicker and make out that what we had in the PC , where there was a separation of chip , systems and software , was n’t largely gon na reproduce itself in the mobile world , ” he say .

Well , at least Ballmer will always have hisdevelopers .
