The L&K guys gave us clue about the pilot light and upcoming labor , and Joe discussed his new Twitter - centric zombie movie and his possible script for The Walking Dead .

Burning Blade Tavern Epic Universe

You ’re presenting the pilot of Locke and Key after it was n’t picked up by Fox . You ’re read it anyway , which is sure enough an unusual move for Comic - Con .

Joe Hill : Everything about this show is strange . I ’m very biased , it ’s a wonderful hour of television system . It ’s very scary and faithful to the spirit of the comic . Mark Romanek [ of Never Let Me Go ] take it to the hilt . It has the flavor of an early Eighties Spielberg production , and showrunner Josh Friedman of The Sarah Connor Chronicles did a beautiful script . I think 20th Century Fox is in a curious locating — they have something that everyone loves and proud of , but there ’s nothing to do with it . What will occur next , no one really knows .

The first book definitely had some gruesome vista — to what level was this toned down for TV ?

Gabriel Rodriguez : They manage that in a very delicate and intelligent way — they knew there were thing they could and could n’t show and add sure details . It ’s not as pictorial as the comedian , but it has the same vibe .

Did Gabe leave concept art for the pilot , or was it a control board - by - panel reproduction ?

JH : Many of the sequences are exactly like they are in the comedian , down to the all right item . I ’m not going to say Mark Romanek did n’t do a Sin City line , but you ’ll watch it think , “ Hey , that looks just like the comic ! ”

In a consummate world , what will happen after you premier the show tomorrow ?

JH : That ’s a complicated query , and it ’s complicated by the fact that there are things that we lie with that we ca n’t entirely speak about . There are rumour mobilize . A few scenario could knead out that could be really wonderful — we ’re just daydreaming here , we ’re not saying we bonk anything . One would be that there ’s an ecstatic chemical reaction to it at Comic - Con and somebody enjoin , “ Oh , maybe we better do six episodes for a cable communication channel . ” That would be pretty great . A DVD press release of the episode — especially one that was a limited edition collected with the book Welcome to Lovecraft and the cowcatcher ’s script — would be marvelous . A third crazy idea would be if someone wanted to film another 20 minutes and do something feature - distance , so citizenry could insure out a standalone made - for - TV pic that would be a back door pilot . That would be pretty raving mad . I ’m not saying anything like that will materialise , but a male child can stargaze !

How did you and Gabe team up for Locke & Key ?

Anker 6 In 1

JH : I had this delivery I brought to IDW Publishing for a story about a house full of enchanted key fruit . Very ahead of time on Gabe come in and looked at the pitch . I responded very strongly to Gabe ’s prowess , not just because he could pass the scarey stuff , but also because I finger that he could make theatrical role people could have it away . A lot of people intend horror is throwing entrails at the proofreader , and somehow that ’s scary . What ’s scary is when you love someone and they ’re in danger . That ’s how horror works .

GR : I call back what makes Locke & Key so particular is that it ’s a blend of horror , fancy , drama , and clowning — what I like about Joe ’s scripts is that there are these scary case , and then BOOM , a joke and you ’re laughing out loud . The comedy sets you up for the revulsion .

I hump you ca n’t drop any hard raider for the brand newfangled Locke & Key series Clockwork , but what can fans anticipate ?

Lenovo Ideapad 1

JH : There ’s a stunner that we dropped in [ the last volume ] key to the Kingdom . This is the place where you put a magnanimous spoiler warning signal in your article .

I can do that , one moment …

JH : earnestly , do n’t read this part if you have n’t caught up .

Galaxy S25

Everyone ’s been sufficiently warned .

JH : Dodge inhabits Bode ’s body — this malign flavour has impound control of the most loved theatrical role in the comedian . I ’m so glad about the direction that played out , it ’s always been there . The name is a pun : “ Bode , ” “ Body . ” This is always where we were heading . And what ’s great is that we have two books left : Clockworks and Omega . That will wind up the grand story business . When you set out on a big project like , this you ’re worried if you’re able to mystify a landing place . The neat fashion to destruct yourself when you ’re writing a series is The X - Files mistake . You ’re just throwing stuff out there because it ’s cool and then say you ’ll explain it subsequently . And when you strain the end , you realise there ’s no way you could wrap it up in a satisfying way . For example , when Dodge is down in the well comb her hairsbreadth , I even know how the comb got down there . There are answers to everything we arrange up .

GR : Throughout Clockwork , we ’ll learn where the keys came from and hear more about the Whispering Iron and the Black Door .

Dyson Hair Dryer Supersonic

Joe , another project you have on the table is a film adaptation of Twittering from the Circus of the Dead , your curt story that expend Twitter to describe zombie carnage from a first - individual viewpoint . How will you interpret that unique format into a cinematic experience ?

JH : A vernal director named Todd Lincoln is going to manage Twittering from the Circus of the Dead . He ’s got a great approximation , but I ca n’t say anything about it . As for the form of that short story , I screw playing with variety as much I love recreate with subject matter .

What I love about that fib is how the typos convey a sensation of scare .

Rickandmorty Mortytank 2

JH : That goes back to Bram Stoker ’s Dracula , that epistolatory form where you have diary introduction . And that story was almost science fable , with Dr. Seward using wax phonograph recording to register his diary unveiling , which was like “ WHOA ! THE FUTURE ! ”

And what ’s the deal with The Walking Dead ? Are you pen an installment ?

JH : My dad [ Stephen King ] and I have speak to Frank Darabont and Robert Kirkman about that . I do n’t believe that will happen for Season 2 because of our schedules , but that ’s something that will credibly hap for Season 3 . The enthusiasm is there for me and my dad — we need to lionize the great zombie musical style , but right now it ’s just peach .

And what ’s next after Locke & Key wrapper up ?

JH : I think Gabe and me are doing a mainstream , five - effect superhero book which will be the first thing we do after Locke and Key for former 2012 / early 2013 . We have an original horror story that ’s completely fresh and young that we require to do in a six - issue brace for 2013 .

GR : We are obligated to our readers to do the good effort we can do with Locke and Key — we do n’t desire to mess up things up when we ’re so close to the end . By next year , you ’ll be asking us about the ending of Locke and Key .

Ideapad3i

JH : It ’s also potential nothing will happen with the original and we ’ll launch our own web series with sock puppets , Sock and Key . Gabe and I will play all the parts !
