Announced today alongside a newInterstella 5555 - theme re - release ofDiscovery , the new theatrical discharge ofThe 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystemwill see a “ remastered ” ( judging by the footage used below , it appears to have been updated via some kind of AI upscaling , rather than a true remastering ) interlingual rendition of the original , uncut translation of the 65 minute film head back to theaters for one Nox only on December 12 .

First released in 2001,Interstella 5555was born of a coaction between Daft Punk and the legendary gum anime director Leiji Matsumoto , the intellect behind the ilk ofSpace Battleship YamatoandGalaxy Express 999 , who manage work on the celluloid alongside director Kazuhisa Takenouchi . Set to various cart track fromDiscoveryand whole without dialogue , Interstella 5555follows the titular alien pop ring – the blue skinned Stella , Arpegius , Octave , and Baryl – as they ’re kidnapped while performing across the asterisk and whisk to earth to be transformed into a human band , the Crescendolls , and their eventual evasion back to the stars .
