Do n’t Worry Darling has vogue . And we do n’t just mean Harry Styles . It ’s got anincredible look and find about it . Impeccable output and costume intention . Bright , beautiful cinematography . Memorable , impactful melodious choices and a hypnotic , distinctive score . There ’s no doubt thatdirector Olivia Wildehas crafted a earthly concern and film that oozes panache and wonder . It ’s just a shame thatthe story it ’s in serving ofnever quite lives up to it .
In Do n’t Worry Darling , Alice ( Florence Pugh ) and Jack ( Harry Styles ) seem to have a perfect life . He ’s set about a keen job , she ’s get a ton of friends , they ’re constantly intimate , and they live in the beautiful town of Victory . Victory is an isolated desert community in which all the married man in the town work for a singular company called the Victory Project . Meanwhile , all the wife stay family , gossip , drink , and make certain there ’s a dwelling house - cooked meal on the table when the men get home . If that sound like a very dated , borderline offensive portrayal of lifespan and gender , you ’re on the right track . Though it ’s never explicitly posit , everything about life in Victory screams superannuated 1950s movie . Almost if that ’s by design .
The aim comes from Frank ( Chris Pine ) , the leader of Victory Project , who is an almost religious god to his neighbor and employee . Frank is selling heaven on Earth , but that all changes when one of the fair sex in town , Margaret ( KiKi Layne ) , starts to complain about thing being incorrect . Soon , Alice starts to agree with her . Thus begin an elaborated mystery where Alice challenge the very notion of Victory , much to the mortification of middling much everyone around her . It ’s her versus the human race .

Obviously , everything is not what it seems in Victory and , as you ’d expect , Alice does begin to unravel things . However , once the actual Sojourner Truth of the situation is reveal , it all comes aside . The hearing is bombarded with information and action for the picture show ’s final 20 minutes or so until the movie end rather abruptly . For a film that has been so meticulous about every trivial item , the shift in note and story is unexpected and negative .
All of those reveals and information are crucial to the overall floor , meet in game hole , and hammer home some of Wilde ’s ultimate themes , which ask gaslighting , misogynism , and exclusive right . But because it bechance so suddenly , and the picture has previously been so cautious tiptoeing around its truths , you ’re ultimately left more peculiar about the how s and why s of the big reveal or else of the film ’s aim . The point of the picture is fall back because it ’s rushed and does n’t make a batch of gumption .
This is a ignominy because , as we said , Do n’t Worry Darling is an otherwise impeccably made movie with some top - notch performances . Pugh is beyond enchant , giving a multilayered depiction that ’s confident and content on the surface , with a stratum below that ’s tardily unraveling . Each setting in the film sees that internal slowly overtaking the outside until her scared confusion ultimately merges with the self-assertiveness . As her husband , Styles is purposefully magic to an extent that realize you kind of revere him , which adds a nice touch to the story . bear roles from the ilk of Nick Kroll , Gemma Chan , Timothy Simons , and Wilde herself are all up to the undertaking . Then the other standout is Pine , who makes his furor leader so all-fired watchable you ’re quick to follow him yourself . He also has a few dynamite tete - a - tetes with Pugh that are among the movie ’s good scene . Those performance , pair off with the film ’s tantalizing worldbuilding , set the table nicely — but , again , are at last let down by the structure and pacing of the story , which is backloaded and mirky .

There ’s slew to like in Do n’t Worry Darling , and you ’d imagine multiple viewings knowing the truth of the tale might make for a more even experience . But on first viewing , it all derive crashing down , like if the table conk out under a jigsaw puzzle when you went to append the last bit .
Do n’t Worry Darling is now in theaters .
