We ’ve been waiting age for child of Men film director Alfonso Cuarón ’s next moving-picture show , and tonight at CinemaCon we finally saw our first coup d’oeil of Gravity . It was quick and unclean , but completely terrific . Here ’s what we saw .
The footage we saw set up the entire celluloid . The only bit of data we ’ve ever had on this flick is this one line synopsis “ astronaut attempt to return to world after junk crash into their space birdie , leaving them drift alone in space . ” What was shown was this second , and only this moment .
George Clooney and Sandra Bullock hover outside of some sort of spacecraft in modern - 24-hour interval outer space case . Clooney ’s voice crackles over a radio receiver , “ It ’s gorgeous is n’t it , the daybreak ? ” And he gesticulate to the Earth , which is simply flash in gorgeous light . They nod toward each other , a moment of silence while orbiting their family satellite . And then , they ’re hit . You ca n’t tell what strike the astronauts — but they ’re lavish with some sort of blank debris . It ’s potential it could be a meteoroid shower . The space station is shatter . One floating astronaut helplessly drag his or her fingers across the side of the station . The other grapples with some sort of tubing . “ Do n’t permit go , ” comes Bullock ’s voice . But it ’s too late . They ’re separated , and she ’s floating away . Ever so slowly . you could hear her breathing pick up as she drift far and farther off from the damage craftsmanship .
We ’re not 100 % sure if Clooney manages to ride out near the crash , but Bullock is 100 % kick the bucket . This was a fantastic teaser dawdler as it basically set up the footage . It ’s clear we ’re not portion out with an noncitizen or any other form of unknown post - apocalyptic disaster . This is a bare case of “ place is scary and it ’s even scarier when you ’re survive to watch out yourself die in it . ”
All in all , it feel like one bit — but it was acute enough to leave a massive picture . Let ’s hope Cuarón keeps the existent “ terror in quad ” vibration live through the last .
