How many careers , friendly relationship , and marriage ceremony will be saved by Gmail’sUndo Sendfeature ? We ’ll never know . It ’s remarkable that it took six eld for Google to bring it out of genus Beta , and more remarkable that it still is n’t change state on by nonpayment . But before Google tackles that feature article petition , I ’ve got another life history - saving idea .

Google should corrupt Boomerang , and for good mix it into Gmail .

Boomerang who?
Like Undo Send , it ’s a Gmail ( and Outlook ) sport that mogul users have already been enjoying for twelvemonth . And like Undo Send , it ’s something that much everyone could use at some point in their living .
But unlike Undo Send , it ’s not just hanging around Gmail Labs waiting for someone to think of it subsist and make it an official part of Gmail . Boomerang is a gigantic Gmail ward-heeler possess by a totally disjoined caller , which charge upwards of $ 5 a month for the service .
Personally , I pay $ 150 a year for the pro variant of Boomerang . No joke .

150 freaking dollars? Does it comewith a sous vide steak?
Nah . It comes with the incredible power to shed off an of import e-mail when you do n’t have time to carry on with it — and have that email come right back when you do .
For example , let ’s say I ’d wish to take up Nancy on her gracious offer of some galvanized wire mesh . ( Eric took the last roster . ) But I ’m in the eye of writing an important story , and I ca n’t talk to her mighty now . Should I star the email ? leave behind it as unread ? Put it in a special folder ? How do I keep this extremely important email from getting forget under the rest of my inbox ?
reach that lilliputian magnifying glass ikon at the upper - left corner of the image for a closer look .

I know that tomorrow afternoon is go to be pretty scant , though . So I iron the Boomerang button , hit the “ Tomorrow Afternoon ” clitoris … and follow the email disappear . For now .
Tomorrow good afternoon , it bug out up right on top of my inbox . Which triggers a presentment on my screen background . And my phone . Andmaybe my smartwatch , too . All of which makes it way the heck safer than relying on my genius to retrieve to go look through quondam starred electronic mail .
And that ’s not the only thing that Boomerang can do .

What else?
Send messages subsequently — you get it on , at reasonable hours when people will actually read them .
I have a lot of ideas late at nighttime , when my East Coast colleagues are already fast asleep . Or maybe I ’ll be chatting with someone overseas . I need to write down my thought and transmit it right aside , so I do n’t forget .
Check out that institutionalise Later button at the bottom of the compose windowpane . And the checkbox !

Would I rather that idea get drive home to them now , when they probably wo n’t read it right off and it ’ll get buried under a mickle of other e-mail by the time they wake up ? Or later ? ( I suppose you could venture the correct answer . ) I exhort two button , and the email hits my recipients ’ inbox at a clip when they ’re way more probable to see and appreciate it .
And then there are the checkboxes . ( Oh , how I love the checkboxes . ) They check that that I rarely have to worry about whose responsibility it is to reply to an email . Have you ever get off an e-mail to a whole group of people , hop for military volunteer , nobody chimes in , and then you bury you ever institutionalise it because there was no reply ? condition a box and Boomerang sends you a admonisher if that find .
The inverse also work : if you ’re send off a Boomerang email to yourself , there ’s a box you could tick to auto - cancel the admonisher if someone else reply to the train of thought . ( Good for them ! )

Isn’t this just like Google Inbox?
Kind of . Inbox takes your Gmail and gives it a alike “ Snooze ” feature , but also get rid of a draw of the organisational discriminative stimulus like when an email originally arrived . you could entirely drowse an email and have it add up back later on , though , with just a swipe in the mobile app . Which is just how I ’d like it to work when or if they work it to Gmail — so I do n’t need to change the style I triage email completely .

Sounds like Boomerang works great. Why would Google fix what ain’t broke? Aren’t you just asking Google to foot the bill?
The thing about Boomerang for Gmail is that it ’s a giant hack . It ’s messy . It sometimes feels like it should n’t work at all . It has to inject buttons into your existing Gmail web customer , buttons which sometimes need to pop up new web web browser window to authenticate you with the Boomerang service of process before it starts working . It has to redirect your Boomerang subject matter to its own third - company server so it can schedule them for later — and on rare occasions , I ’ve seen them disappear into the ether .
And most importantly — if you ask me , at any rate — you ca n’t utilize it in the Gmail app on your earpiece . Obviously , when I ’m mobile is when I * most * need a armed service like Boomerang , because it ’s hard to typecast and sic effective reminder on the go . Boomerang does have its own email app , but it ’s no Gmail , and I ’m not going to be shift anytime shortly .
If Google bought Boomerang — or evolve vie features , I suppose — it could bring these bounties to everyone , everywhere . ( It feel like a brake shoe - in for Android Wear smartwatches , too . ) Hell , peradventure it could even intercept into my Google Calendar to see when I ’d be most free to conduct with those electronic mail , and mechanically evoke those times the next time I Boomerang an email .

And yeah , sure , I would n’t mind having my $ 150 - a - twelvemonth back , too .
