This “ hospital in the sky , ” as imagined byArthur Radebaughin the May 11 , 1958 variation of his comicCloser Than We call up , operates under the supposal that the “ lightness , ray of light and dispirited temperatures of outer blank ” would permit for more in effect treatment of patients .
The American Rocket Society has reported to President Eisenhower that practical aesculapian science could benefit significantly from the weightlessness , irradiation and crushed temperatures of outer space . So we may find that some of tomorrow ’s hospitals may actually be anchor in the nirvana .
One of these hospital might be shaped like a record atop elevator tubes leading to the dominance section . The mushroom - like disk would arrest weightless operating rooms for treating centre and other constitutional troubles as well as ivory disease . It would also wait on as a nucleus for vitreous silica balls which , revolve lento , would utilize concentrated sunrays to treat cancer , pelt diseases and similar ailments .
