Lady Gagamay have officiallyannounced her splitfrom fiancé Christian Carino on Tuesday, but friends and fans have been wondering if perhaps the clues were there all along.
A source tells PEOPLE the couple split “a bit ago,” and it appears the signs they had gone their separate ways were already out in the open.

Gaga also did not give the CAA agent a shoutout in her speech when she accepted the trophy for best pop duo or group performance for “Shallow.”
She did, however, thank God, her family, the Grammys and costarBradley Cooper.
Days later, Valentine’s Day proved to be another major hint that their relationship was over.

Carino lastshared a photoof Gaga to his Instagram page Feb. 5, a snap of her back along with the Marilyn Monroe quote, “Beneath the makeup and behind the smile I am just a girl who wishes for the world.”

But the star was conspicuously absent from his feed on Valentine’s Day, and a third source tells PEOPLE they spent the holiday apart.
Gaga, meanwhile, celebrated the day on social media not with a nod to Carino, but with the debut of a new tattoo, a rose up her spine in reference to herStar Is Bornrole.
She showed offadditional inkthat same day on her inner arm that featured the musical notes “G” and “A” on sheet music.
Gaga and Carino started dating in February 2017, though a Carino sourcetells PEOPLEit may have been doomed from the start.

“Their friends knew they weren’t going to work out in the long run,” according to a source close to Carino. “It always seemed Christian was more into the relationship than Gaga was.”
